Robin Hollington Q.C.
Call: 1979  Silk: 1999

Robin has been in practice since 1981. He took silk in 1999. He has sat as a Recorder (Civil) since 2004. His practice has encompassed virtually all aspects of contentious work in the Chancery Division, with a particular emphasis on company law and insolvency (both corporate and individual). He has developed a particular specialisation in claims involving complaints of oppression of minority shareholders and is the author of the leading textbook in this field Shareholders' Rights published by Sweet & Maxwell. He has substantial experience of mediation, usually as an advocate although also as an accredited mediator.

He has appeared in many recent heavy and complex court cases in the field of shareholders’ disputes. He has also represented parties in many foreign jurisdictions, including Gibraltar (most recently, a derivative claim in Gibraltar and breach of trust claim in the High Court in London concerning oil and gas fields held through complex off-shore trusts and companies), B.V.I. (dispute between American, Chilean and Peruvian investors in Peruvian oil and gas concessions), Cayman Islands (most recently a proof in a liquidation with multi-jurisdiction litigation), and Hong Kong (most recently, he advised the receivers appointed by the Hong Kong Government on the strength of claims against the Bank of China for wrongful interference with a company’s import/export business). He has also acted as an expert witness on UK law in litigation in New York (2003, corporate receivership) and California (2005-2006, bankruptcy).

He also has some experience of criminal and human rights law. As Junior Counsel, he was instructed by the Serious Fraud Office to advise and appear on Chancery issues in the Barlow Clowes’ appeal to the Court of Criminal Appeal, and to advise in the several Maxwell prosecutions. He represented the claimants in their successful claim to the European Court of Human Rights (Mitchell v. UK, December 2002), establishing breaches of Article 6 of the Convention (Right to a Fair Trial) on the basis of excessive delay in the English legal process.

Robin was appointed Head of Chambers in July 2010.
