Gary Pryce

Gary Pryce was educated at a comprehensive school in Birmingham, which was followed by a Law degree at Trinity College, University of Cambridge and then a Master's degree in Law at the University of Virginia School of Law in the US. At undergraduate level Gary held a Clifford Chance Newton Bursary, a Lizette Bentwich prize for academics and a Henry Arthur Hollond Fund award for academic study in the US. Gary was called to the Bar by Lincoln's Inn in 1997; he held the William Joseph Whittaker scholarship and a Lincoln's Inn Thomas More Bursary while undertaking the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law. In 2000, Gary was awarded a Pegasus Scholarship by the Inns of Court; the scholarship enabled him to gain several months experience in Sydney, Australia, in the dispute resolution group at a leading Australian international law firm and also in the New South Wales Supreme Court, Equity Division. Gary Pryce joined chambers in 2002, having been a member of a predominantly common law set of chambers prior to joining New Square Chambers. Gary's practice includes all aspects of property litigation and advisory work and related professional liability matters. Recent work includes advising a charitable housing trust on legal aspects of proposed extensive building works and its ability to recover the costs of the works from third parties, including long lessees. Other recent advisory work concerned advising a commercial landlord as to its rights to possession of a business unit where the tenant purported to terminate a business tenancy in order to claim residential tenancy rights of occupation over the same premises. Gary has appeared for a broad range of solicitor clients in property matters before the Adjudicator to HM Land Registry, the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal, the Lands Tribunal, county courts, Chancery Division and the Court of Appeal. Gary Pryce's commercial practice largely concerns trade and agency disputes concerning the interpretation of contracts, discharge of performance obligations under contract, the incorporation and application of standard terms and conditions of trade and the enforcement of foreign judgments in England and Wales. Gary's practice also includes aspects of Insolvency law, particularly where there are issues in dispute concerning ownership or the treatment of commercial or residential property interests in insolvency proceedings. Gary Pryce also undertakes local government work and has substantial experience of housing litigation in that context. Gary has appeared for various clients before statutory tribunals, council committees, the county courts in statutory appeals, judicial review claims in the Administrative Court and appeals in the Court of Appeal. |
